Saying something nice to someone has the power to brighten their day or even change the course of their life. And it just might have the same effects on you. There are few things that can uplift others as much as a few kind words. Sharing a compliment or an encouraging thought can have a significant impact. It can make or break someone's day or even their week. In fact, saying the right thing at the right time can change someone's life forever.

Nothing in the world wields more power than words. Yes! Saying nice things to others doesn’t just make them feel good. It gives you a warm rush of good feelings too. Like ripples on a pond, positive energy grows and spreads whenever you share it.

Offering words of encouragement can be especially effective. Everyone struggles in life, even if they don't show it. So you never know when a few encouraging words will be just what someone needs to face their fears, get over a hump, or overcome whatever obstacles they are facing.

A compliment is a polite positive expression of praise or admiration to someone. It is  a powerful gift of love. Compliments are sentences or words that strengthen what is going well. Giving a compliment demonstrates mindfulness. It makes us more conscious of the positive developments and atmosphere in our lives.

It is important to give compliments because it helps us communicate the appreciation we feel towards one another. A well-given compliment is a kind of confirmation; it brings people, in a positive way, closer together and can create so much positive energy that it will give the receiver wings to go the extra mile. It makes people happier and more successful.

Moreover, compliments not only deliver positive effects to others, but those effects also bounce back to create a positive spirit. A lot of people find it hard or feel uncomfortable giving compliments. Many don’t realize how transformative compliments are, they misestimate their value.

Compliments only work when they are an honest reflection of what we feel, if we indeed mean it and when it is real.

A good compliment is:

  • Concrete: Explains in detail what the compliment is about

  • Positive: Accentuating why you praise

  • Delivered in person with a smile

Instead of saying something, in general, like: “you’re perfect” or “well done”, be specific.

Don’t link a compliment to something bad in the past.
